Design of circular tax office building

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I would like to commend Patricia Green on the excellent article, ‘Honouring architects – Jamaica’s nation-builders’, in The Sunday Gleaner, In Focus, of August 7.

There is, however, a correction that is necessary to state, that I designed and supervised the construction of the Kingston tax office (the Sir Donald Sangster Building) and not Mostyn Campbell and Lloyd Robinson, as mentioned in the article.

If it is of any interest, I also designed and supervised construction of the New Chapelton Collectorate as featured in the Jamaica Architect Vol. No.2 1967. At the opening ceremony, which I attended, the then Prime Minister Donald Sangster saw me in the audience and invited me to the stage to make a speech. I do not recall another Jamaican architect having this sort of recognition.

Keep up the articles on architecture and architects in Jamaica.
