ACP approves funds for ZIKV fight

The African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Council of Ministers has approved the allocation of funds to support the fight against the Zika Virus in the Caribbean.
The money is to be taken from Intra-ACP funds under the 11th European Development Fund.
During the 103rd Session of the ACP Council on Tuesday, Jamaica's Foreign Affairs Minister Kamina Johnson Smith proposed that the funds be allocated for the ZIKV fight and yesterday, approval was granted.
A release from the Foreign Affairs ministry did not say how much had been allocated or how the money would be distributed.
In the meantime, the ministry says Senator Johnson Smith also made interventions at the ACP Council on sustainable development, climate change, youth inclusion and entrepreneurship.
The Jamaican delegation is still in Senegal attending the two-day 41st Session of the Joint ACP-European Union (EU) Council meeting, which started today.
That meeting will focus on the implementation of the Economic Partnership Agreement between the ACP and the EU.
