Businessmen donate to Haiti relief efforts
A group of 30 businessmen who have been meeting for more than 30 years has donated $310,000 to Food For The Poor in aid of the Hurricane Matthew relief efforts.
The group of men who call themselves Thursdays are from different parts of the island and meet weekly for fun and fellowship.
Recently, representatives of Thursdays, led by businessman Paul Marchalleck, demonstrated that there is more to the group than mere fun when he presented a cheque for $310,000 to Food For The Poor. The donation was the result of a collection drive among members of the group.
Speaking on behalf of Thursdays, Marchalleck told The Gleaner that while in the past there had been smaller acts of charity made by individual members, this was the first occasion in which the entire group had been mobilised to act in a show of social responsibility. The group has since pledged to redouble their internal fundraising efforts on a continuous basis to create a pool of funds from which they can assist persons in need.
