The Rotary Club of Downtown Kingston will be hosting its 12th Annual Wine & Cheese plus Jazz & Art at the Knutsford Court Hotel on Sunday, November 1. The event, which is primarily an art auction, will feature scores of art pieces from leading Jamaican artists as well as dramatic pieces from some young and upcoming artists.

More than 100 pieces of art will be auctioned, including works from leading Jamaican artists Alexander Cooper, David Pottinger, Albert Artwell, Albert Huie, and Carl Abrahams, as well as from other known talents such as Pam Hunt-Bromfield, Carol Watson, Leopold Barnes, Mark Bogie, Joshua Gordon, Betty Glanville, Sonia Richards, and several others. All art pieces will be featured in a catalogue, which will be on sale at the event.

Club director in charge of the project, Emile Finlay said the proceeds garnered from this year's auction, would go towards increasing the club's scholarship fund.

In the past, proceeds have gone towards projects of the club to include a major sanitation project in downtown Kingston; hurricane relief in Kintyre; construction and renovation in the Rae Town Fishing Village; a skills training centre on East Queen Street; and projects at the Real Success Basic School as well as other schools. The profits will also assist with the club's ongoing support for the Denham Town Golden Age Home and several projects at the Bustamante Hospital for Children.

Major sponsors for this year's event are Hi-Qo Art and Framing Gallery, the Jamaica National Building Society, the Jamaica Observer, and the Knutsford Court Hotel.

Patrons will be treated to jazz, Jamaican classics by a live band, as well as hors d'oeuvres and fine wine. Auctioneers will be the inimitable James Pawson and licensed broker and auctioneer Emile Finlay.
