The book titled 'Dragon in the Caribbean: The Global Re-Dimensioning of China. Opportunities and Challenges for the Caribbean', written by Ambassador Dr Richard L. Bernal, will be launched at the University of the West Indies (UWI) on Monday, March 20 at 6 p.m.

Published by Ian Randle Publishers, the book gives insight into China's involvement in the Caribbean, which has increased significantly during the last decade, and seeks to answer the questions : What motivates the People's Republic of China to give so much attention to the small states of the Caribbean? What is the future direction of China-Caribbean relations? How can the Caribbean countries benefit more from the relationship in exports, direct foreign investment, and tourism?

Copies of the book will first be available at the launch, which will feature remarks by Sir Hilary Beckles, vice chancellor of The University of the West Indies, and Dr Peter Phillips.

The book has got accolades from Professor Franklin Knight of Johns Hopkins University, who describes it as "essential reading".

Bernal is a former diplomat and is now pro-vice chancellor, Global Affairs, at the UWI.
