Virtual Educa Foundation Headquarters inaugurated in Washington DC

Ambassador Dr Neil Parsan, newly elected president of the Board of Virtual Educa Foundation, together with Secretary General JosÈ MarÌa AntÛn and representatives from the World Bank, the United Nations, and members of the diplomatic corps were on hand to formally inaugurate the offices of Virtual Educa in Washington, DC.

Parsan said that the foundation was working to create the required linkages to innovation, education, and the fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Goals. AntÛn presented the main Virtual Educa projects. Paloma Duran, director of the UN Sustainable Development Goals Fund, outlined the importance of the Goals to effectively change contemporary societies, while Pawan Patil, World Bank senior economist, spoke about the importance of education for a knowledge society.

"Virtual Educa has become a standard in the Americas and a flagship programme, and impressive growth over the last 16 years is evident in its contribution to the integration of the region around issues of education," said Audrey Marks, ambassador of Jamaica to the United States and permanent representative to the Organiza-tion of American States.

Virtual Educa is a global initiative created in 2001 in order to promote innovation in education to promote social transformation and integral development. Virtual Educa operates through an alliance of public and private institutions, bringing together the government and multilateral, business, academic, and civil society sectors. Its management engages the associations and foundations of Virtual Educa in Spain, Peru, and the USA. The general secretariat is in Washington, DC.
