Critical discussion on 'Black Panther' at UWI

The Department of Literatures in English, in collaboration with the Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work, at The University of the West Indies, Mona, will host a host a critical discussion of the record-breaking Ryan Coogler film Black Panther on Wednesday, April 18, at 6 p.m.

This event will explore the creative production of the film, the political history that preceded the film, and the steady cultural and psychological impact that it has maintained since its release in February.

'From Black Power to Black Panther to Afro-Futurism', hosted by, Faculty of Humanities and Education and the Faculty of Social Sciences, features panellists anthropologist Dr Moji Anderson, sociologist Dr Michael Barnett, cultural analyst Dr Isis Semaj-Hall, and film-maker Michelle Serieux.

With the Black Panther character expected to attract even more ticket sales for the April 27 release of Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War, the panellists' review will provide critical insight and perspective on the character, the film, and the representation of Africa in popular media.

This event will be in the Multifunctional Room of the UWI's Main Library. It is free and open to the public.
