Peter Massias Foundation awards scholarships
The Peter Massias Foundation presented scholarship in the amount of $200,000 to three students of Camperdown High School
Janae Hudson and Shanoya McKenzie will receive a one-time award of $50,000 each based on the impact their application essays and grades made on the scholarship panel.
Ninth-grader Tean Thomas, the first recipient of the annual scholarship, scored As in 11 of 13 subjects in the 2021 summer term. Tean describes himself as a hard-working student who is motivated to do well academically. He thanks his teachers and everyone involved in his academic life for believing in him and motivating him to do well. Tean and his peers, persevered with their classwork through the pandemic when they had to follow up with coursework in the virtual space. This was not always easy for them, especially when they had to seek out regular and consistent Internet connections when they did not have it at home.
Camperdown High School’s Principal, Valentine Bailey; Vice Principal, Dennis Webster; and Peter Massias Foundation Scholarship panel members were on hand to present the cheques to this year’s scholarship recipients.
The Peter Massias Foundation’s Scholarship Foundation is appealing to all past students to make regular contributions to the fund to ensure the continued success of the scholarship programme. Contributions can be made by going to www.pmfsf.org and going to the donate button.
The Peter Massias Foundation was started in 2021 by members of Form 1B (1973) who graduated in 1978. The group named the foundation in memory of class member Peter Massias, who died in 1976 from complications caused by Sickle Cell Anemia. The Peter Massias Foundation will award a scholarship annually to a student at Camperdown High School. The foundation is headed by Eron Smith, president; Yvonne Berwise, vice-president; Treasurer, Kevin Purrier; and Clayton Chin, secretary. Andrea Brown chairs the scholarship panel and liaises with past students, the principal, and staff of Camperdown High to select and administer scholarship funds throughout the school year.
