Solitude: bringing all pieces of self together

Published:Sunday | October 22, 2023 | 12:06 AM

In our modern world, where the clamour of life often drowns out the subtle whispers of our inner selves, where society celebrates the extrovert, the social butterfly, and the hustler who is always on the move, it is essential to recognise the importance of solitude in our lives. Solitude is not synonymous with loneliness. Rather, it is a deliberate choice to be with the self.

WHAT IS SOLITUDE?

By solitude, we think of a space free from external distractions, people, and worldly noise, where you can have your own personal time. No doubt, it offers a respite from the constant noise of the world, allowing us to tap into our creativity. But, is that it?

When we find that space, what do we do? How do we use that time or space? Unfortunately, we are so occupied that the personal time we spend reading books, playing games, watching video shorts, watching movies, planning for future excitement, window shopping, doing pending work, or sleep, etc., this is how the majority of us spend our uninterrupted time. Is this solitude?

Solitude is taking time to pause and look within, watch the direction of your thoughts, and give them the right channel. It is to be one with the self, bringing all pieces of self together and restoring the masterpiece that reflects the divine. It is a means of self-empowerment and solace by returning to our originality. It is a reminder that we do not need constant external validation or social interaction to thrive. We can be content in our own company.

DEEPER UNDERSTANDING

Solitude can bring a deeper understanding of ourselves, making us more attuned to our being, leading to increased self-awareness, which is a potent tool for personal development. Solitude means self-introspection, allowing us to sift through the clutter of our minds, identify areas where we need improvement, and work on self-improvement. In the quietude of solitude, we can come to terms with our past, heal old wounds, learn to accept ourselves, and find a sense of peace within ourselves.

In a world characterised by a constant stream of information and noise, valuing constant connectivity and external stimulation; the ability to retreat to solitude is essential for mental and emotional health. It is a place where we can unwind, rejuvenate, and recharge our batteries. Solitude is not a sign of weakness or social isolation; it is a powerful and necessary aspect of the human experience to find clarity, creativity, personal growth, and peace. Solitude is not a refuge from the world but a journey inward where we discover the depth and beauty of our own being. Let us embrace it.
