Madam Leon’s legacy begins with the establishment of the Leon School of Beauty Culture, a pioneering institution that not only empowered countless individuals with the art of beauty, but also stood as a beacon of education. Her commitment to teaching endured until her untimely passing, leaving an enduring impact on generations to come.

Beyond beauty education, Madam Leon catalysed a revolution by introducing locally made beauty products, a remarkable feat that bolstered Jamaica’s economy and fostered self-reliance. Her influence extended beyond the beauty industry, as she played a pivotal role in the foundation of the Jamaica Foundation of Women and The Jamaica Manufacturing Association in 1947. These institutions laid the foundation for the empowerment of women and the growth of the Jamaican business sector.

Madam Leon was a staunch supporter of the West Indies Federation, reflecting her dedication to regional unity. In 1940, she embarked upon her political journey, becoming the first woman elected as a councillor. Her trailblazing spirit reached its zenith in 1953 when she was appointed Minister of Health and Welfare, making her the first woman to hold a cabinet position in Jamaica. Her unwavering dedication to politics was further demonstrated as she chaired a political party, a role she held for an astonishing 12 years.
