The Perfect Gift
The Perfect Gift hung on a tree,
The precious Lamb of Calvary.
He gave himself for you and me,
Not hidden under shiny leaves.
God’s perfect ornament of grace,
Was wrapped in love and took my place.
My sins forgiven, oh what love,
That He would send his only Son.
This Perfect Gift unmatched by all,
No pretty wrappings in a stall.
But on a cross my Saviour died,
To become the ultimate sacrifice.
All other gifts refuse to last,
But what he gave was oh so vast.
The love of God that would surpass,
All our sins upon him cast.
The flashing lights at Christmas time,
Disguise the perfect sacrifice,
Jesus, the way, the truth, the life,
Revealed to us this Eastertide.
Accept this Perfect Gift today,
The spotless Lamb, He’ll make a way.
Believe right now that He is risen,
Rejoice, your sins have been forgiven!

Today, I Lost a Friend
For Cory Ranaldo Walker
May 6, 1985- November 4, 2024
Today, I lost a Friend
And mourn with Family, Colleagues
Well-wishers, Community
Chill-spot Keepers
Friends
All protocols observed
To this now painful end
Now as for Cory
We knew the smile
Before we knew the man
Even when teased about
Otherwise uncomfortable conditions
All that followed
Was a humble reply
From this Gentleman
A heart of revenge
Cory had none
Cory was friend to all
And Enemy to none
I remember we shared
Jokes
About relationships
And the lack of it
At the Barber Salon
The hippest Chill Strip
Where even the kids
Found solace
To make a trip
Cory carved the best brows
And to giving a free drink
Was nothing to him-
As he showed
No restraint
If his customers
And Friends
Felt parched
And faint
He was Barber, Electrician
Brother, Father, Husband,
Uncle, Son
Jack of all trades
And though being a young man
Was Friend and
Motivation
To both the old
And the young
Then November 4 came
And I remembered
It was my University Graduation
Anniversary
I was jubilant
But the next day
The sad news came
That one of my kindest Friends
Had passed on
On my Graduation Anniversary
I remember you walking
Down the street
And I struggled to tell you thank you
For giving me
A free drink
And For carving my eye brows
So neatly
Not just a job
But a Fashion statement
As I never had complaints
About your level of know how
And professionalism
I remember our final conversation
Never knew it was our last
All I know is
Today I lost a friend
With a big heart
Now God has welcomed
A New Angel
That was a Saint from a mile
And we will never forget your grace
And kindness
But most of all…
We will never forget
Your smile.
