Drone for the driver

French vehicle manufacturer Renault has conceptualised a motor vehicle which releases a drone to scout ahead in traffic, helping the driver select the best routes.

The car manufacturer debuted their KWID concept at the 2014 Delhi Auto Show. It is a high-tech vehicle that features its very own built-in drone. The flying companion is stored in a chamber at the rear of the vehicle.

If the driver needs to scout ahead or just wants to take aerial photos of the surroundings, he or she can operate the flying machine from a tablet which is integrated into the car's dashboard.

Beneath the bonnet, the KWID operates on a 1.2-litre petrol powered turbocharged engine, with dual-clutch transmission. The gear shift is replaced with touch commands next to the steering wheel, giving a simple but luxurious driving experience. The vehicle is also equipped to use electric batteries for power.

The vehicle, though two-wheel drive, is designed to look like a rugged off-road car. Its seats are designed to hold driver and passenger in a comfortable cocoon-like network of materials.

It will be the French company's first offering to be designed specifically for release outside of Europe and is expected to be introduced in India. However, it is unclear if the car will be put into production anytime soon.
