CX-3 - Mazda's newest addition

Mazda has marked its entry into the sub-compact crossover segment with the CX-3. Based on the platform of the Mazda 2 sedan, the CX-3 manages to provide adequate head and legroom throughout the cabin as well as a respectable cargo area. The interior is sporty, and the instrument cluster has a racing-inspired feel with an oversized tachometer.

Mazda utilises unique colour schemes and high-quality materials. Our Dynamic Blue Mica tester was handsomely finished with ivory and burgundy leather and suede inserts present on the dashboard, seats, and door handles.

The CX-3 also features a seven-inch touch screen controlled by a rotary knob with dedicated function buttons around it by the gear selector.

Loaded with driver-assistance technology, the CX-3 is equipped with head-up display

illustrating the current speed, lane-departure warning, and collision detection. Engine auto start/stop and adaptive cruise control are also features of the CX-3 we tested. While meandering along the congested roads of Kingston, the auto/start stop function was one of the smoothest and most unnoticeable ones experienced.

Powered by a 'SKYACTIV' 2000cc 4-cylinder engine, the car is peppy with a 'can-do' attitude. The sport-tuned suspension and taut handling makes the CX-3 a fun car to drive. Power is delivered to an all-wheel drive system through a six-speed automatic transmission. The electric steering is well tuned and makes manoeuvering effortless in the CX-3. The driving position is elevated, providing a good view of surroundings and provides the feeling of driving a much larger SUV.

The exterior of the CX-3 is enhanced by dramatic 18" wheels and Mazda's current Kodo design language. Upscale detailing is carried throughout the exterior and interior of the car, adding a luxurious touch.

The CX-3 is a trendy, well-designed subcompact crossover that provides good fuel economy and an enjoyable driving experience.
