The Porsche Panamera has come a long way since its debut in 2009. Initially, the sleek silhouette challenged the brand’s association with the iconic 911. However, much like the 944, the Panamera has matured into its own, carving a unique niche in the luxury-car market.

This third-generation Panamera exudes confidence with a distinctive swooping roofline that flows seamlessly into the rear. Character lines accentuate the curves, creating a visually lighter and more dynamic presence.

Gone are the days of prioritising the front seats - Panamera offers a true four-seater experience. Each bucket seat is meticulously crafted with padding, heating, and cooling features, ensuring exceptional comfort for all passengers.

Staying true to Porsche’s tradition, the Panamera comes in a variety of configurations: Panamera; Panamera 4; and the pinnacle of innovation, the Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid. This review focuses on my driving experience of the Panamera though all models share a focus on exceptional comfort and performance.

Striking A Balance: Design and Dimensions

The 2024 Panamera retains the characteristic proportions that define the model line. Measuring 5,052 mm long, 1,937mm wide, and 1,423mm high, it maintains a sleek profile while offering ample interior space.

The visual revamp emphasises a more expressive and sporty character. An enlarged air intake above the number plate caters to the car’s powerful engine, while the redesigned window line reinforces the four-door sports car aesthetic. The integrated Porsche logo within the three-dimensional rear light adds a touch of dynamism. The continuous light strip that spans the entire rear creates a distinctive signature, further enhancing the car’s presence.

A Driver-Centric Interior Experience

As expected from Porsche, the highest point on the dashboard is the digital instrument cluster, a curved and free-standing 12.6-inch display. A 12.3-inch centre display complements the driver’s information hub.

The Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system stands out for its seamless app integration. For instance, you can navigate using the intuitive native map while simultaneously playing music from the media player. The map conveniently relocates to one of the screens within the digital cluster when switching applications.

An optional passenger display further enhances the co-pilot’s experience. This 10.9-inch screen displays vehicle data and allows interaction with the infotainment system, even supporting video streaming while the car is in motion. To ensure hat tdriver focus remains on the road, the passenger display is strategically positioned to be out of the driver’s line of sight.

Taking Sound Systems to New Heights

The Panamera offers two premium sound-system options – a Bose® surround sound system and a Burmester® 3D high-end surround sound system – both featuring a new driver-focused setting called “Driver.” This mode optimises the sound experience specifically for the driver’s seat. Additionally, both systems boast innovative subwoofer technology for an unparalleled listening experience.

The redesigned centre console features large touch-sensitive control surfaces with intuitive haptic feedback, replacing the previous gear-selector lever. This allows for a more streamlined climate-control panel with physical buttons for temperature and ventilation adjustments. A rotary push-button controls the audio volume, and redesigned louvre-less air vents offer a multitude of settings, from draft-free air conditioning to rapid cooling.

For enhanced rear-passenger comfort, the Executive models (market specific) feature an extended wheelbase with flatter seats and improved legroom. New soft foam padding and comfort headrests elevate the rear seating experience. Additionally, these models come equipped with four-zone climate control and a 15-watt wireless charging function in the rear centre console.

Unparalleled Ride Experience

The Panamera prioritises comfort without compromising on performance. The standard adaptive two-valve air suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) featuring two-valve dampers offers exceptional control and a comfortable ride. This technology separates damper control between rebound and compression stages, creating a wider range between a sporty and comfortable driving experience. Optional all-wheel steering further enhances agility and handling.

Illuminating the Road Ahead

The advanced HD Matrix LED headlights, boasting over 32,000 pixels, illuminate the road with precision and minimal glare. New features include dedicated lane brightening and an impressive illumination range of up to 600 metres.

Powertrain Options: Electric Innovation and Classic Performance

For those seeking an electric driving experience, the Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid boasts a more powerful electric motor, increased charging power (11 kW), and a larger high-voltage battery (25.9 kWh). It races to 100km/h in a staggering 3.2 seconds and achieves a top speed of 315km/h. This powerhouse seamlessly blends electric efficiency with exhilarating performance.

The Panamera and Panamera 4 models retain the 2.9-litre V6 turbo engine, but with optimised performance thanks to tweaks in boost pressure, fuel injection, and ignition timing. This translates to 260kW (353 PS) and 500Nm of torque, a significant increase compared to the previous generation. The 0-100km/h sprint time drops to 5.3 seconds (or 5.1 seconds with the Sport Chrono package), and the top speed reaches 272km/h.

The ergonomically designed selector lever is positioned to the right of the steering wheel, ensuring easy access to driving mode options (Normal, Sport, and Sport Plus) and assistance controls. This allows drivers to maintain focus on the road while adjusting vehicle settings.

The standard active speed assistant now integrates with traffic sign recognition. With this system activated, the Panamera automatically adjusts its speed to comply with posted limits.

The Evolving Legacy of the Panamera

The 2024 Porsche Panamera represents a perfect blend of innovation and heritage. It retains the brand’s DNA of exceptional performance and handling while incorporating the latest technologies for a luxurious and comfortable driving experience. Whether you choose the electric versatility of the Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid or the exhilarating power of the Panamera and Panamera 4, this four-door masterpiece delivers an unforgettable journey.
