Caribbean Airlines CEO quits

After just 17 months on the job, the chief executive officer of Caribbean Airlines Limited (CAL) has resigned with immediate effect.

Michael DiLollo, 48, who was appointed CEO in May, cited personal reasons for his decision. He was appointed following the sudden resignation of Robert Corbie in September 2013.

The airline's chief financial officer, Tyrone Tang, will act as CEO until a permanent replacement is found.

Members of staff were informed of the resignation via a memo from the airline's chairman, Phillip Marshall.

DiLollo, a pilot, gave no hint of plans to quit when he addressed the media earlier this month. He then said he was ready to steer the airline to a break-even financial position and that CAL and its team was "well on our way, very well on our way to achieving that target."

The new administration of Dr Keith Rowley had previously indicated that the new Trinidad government would be cutting subsidies to the airline.

Jamaica owns 16 per cent of CAL.
