Feb 2: JSE hits new record high

The Jamaica Stock Exchange Combined Index advanced by 1,543.79 points or 0.90 per cent to close at 173,938.49 with a day dominated by advancing stocks. The index also climbed to a new record high. 

Overall market activity resulted from trading in 43 stocks of which 22 advanced, 13 declined and 8 traded firm. Winners included AMG Packaging & Paper Company Ltd, Barita Investments, Caribbean Cement Company, KLE Group, Scotia Group Jamaica and others. Losers included Caribbean Cream, GraceKennedy, Jamaica Broilers Group and others.

Market volume amounted to 6,241,385 units valued at over $43.4 million. Lasco Manufacturing Limited was the volume leader with 1.0 million units (16.60 per cent) followed by Ciboney Group Limited with 1.0 million units (16.59 per cent) and Consolidated Bakeries (Jamaica) Limited with 815,024 units (13.06 per cent).

The activity in the main, junior and US equities market make up the Combined Index. The JSE Index advanced by 1,693.42 points (1.05 per cent) to close at 163,225.01; the Junior Market Index declined by 5.86 points (0.26 per cent) to close at 2,217.64; and the JSE USD Equities Index declined by 3.75 points (2.33 per cent) to close at 157.40.

The combined index last peaked at just above, 173,000 points on January 27.
