Musson Trading, a subsidiary of the Musson Group of Companies, will on Monday start distributing Nestle's confectionery portfolio.

Musson will also distribute Nestle's Food & Beverage products through convenience channels only, including gas stations, convenience stores and pharmacies. It means that Nestle Jamaica will continue distributing its core food and beverage products to the supermarket retail sector.

Michael Subratie, director of Musson Jamaica Limited, said in a press statement that the group aims to increase the distribution of Nestle products by 30 per cent by the end of 2017.

Nestle's confectionery portfolio includes Kit Kat, Crunch, Raisinets, Smarties, Baby Ruth, Butterfinger & Oh Henry, while the food and beverage lines include Milo, Maggi, Nescafe, and infant nutrition products such as Klim, Lactogen, Cerelac and Nestum.

In recent times, Musson Trading has invested heavily in a van distribution network with the goal of focusing on convenience stores, gas stations, gift shops, pharmacies and mom-and-pop stores.

"These channels are our speciality and we hope to stand out as distributors by focusing on these areas in particular," said Subraitie.

Nestle has operated in Jamaica for 75 years. Last year, under a deal with the Musson, the Swiss-owned company ceased local manufacturing in order to focus entirely on distribution and marketing of its brands. Nestle Jamaica sold off its dairy operation to Musson International Dairies Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Musson Group. Musson acquired Nestle's Betty condensed milk and Supligen food drink brands, as well the manufacturing and distribution facilities at the Bybrook factory in Bogwalk, St Catherine. Seprod has been hired by Musson to run the operations.
