Finance Minister Audley Shaw says he wants 100 per cent examination of goods coming in and going out of Jamaican ports in order to clamp down on corruption.

Addressing the Customs Tariff & Port Users Seminar hosted by the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, Shaw said less corruption and better monitoring could mean as much as 30 per cent more revenue for the Government.

That in turn could mean lower tariffs for importers, he told seminar participants.

“If we can have greater transparency at Customs, we can cut down corruption. If we can cut down corruption and everybody is on a level playing field paying their taxes that are due, we can actually lower the customs duty,” Shaw said.
