Fire destroys hotels, houses in gold mining community in Guyana

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – Two hotels and two homes were destroyed by fire early Sunday in the Guyanese gold mining community of  Eteringbang located on the border with Venezuela.

According to Demerara Waves Online News, no one was injured in the blaze that may have stemmed from a faulty generator.

The Guyana Fire Service is yet  to issue a statement on the blaze.

Residents used water from the nearby river to extinguish the flames.
