BOSTON, CMC – United States law enforcement officials say they have detained a 26-year-old Haitian national accused of aggravated rape of a child in a Rockland, Massachusetts, migrant shelter.

They said that the Haitian had been arrested on Tuesday near his residence in Brockton, Massachusetts.

“Cory Bernard Alvarez has been charged with victimising a minor in a Massachusetts migrant shelter,” said the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston Field Office Director Todd M Lyons.

“He will have his day in court, and ERO Boston will continue to cooperate with the criminal court system in Massachusetts, but we cannot allow any significant noncitizen threat to the children of our communities to potentially reoffend.

“ERO Boston will continue to prioritise public safety by arresting and removing egregious noncitizen offenders from New England,” he added.

The United States Customs and Enforcement (ICE) agency said US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency admitted Alvarez into the country lawfully on June 26, 2023, in New York City.

But Alvarez violated the terms of his lawful admittance, ICE said, adding that Rockland Police Department arrested him on March 14, and that, later that day, the Hingham District Court in Hingham arraigned Alvarez for aggravated rape of a child, 10 years age difference.

ICE said ERO Boston lodged an immigration detainer against Alvarez on the same day with the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office.

But, on June 27, ICE said Plymouth County Superior Court of Brockton refused to honour ERO Boston's immigration detainer and released Alvarez from custody on a US$500 bond.

ICE said deportation officers from ERO Boston arrested Alvarez on Tuesday near his residence in Brockton, and that he remains in ERO custody.
