The Campion College Dance Society, having returned from participating in the Dance and The Child International Conference in Denmark, is planning to take members of the public on a colourful and vibrant journey with OPA!, during its fifth season on Saturday, July 18, and Sunday, July 19, at the Little Theatre, Tom Redcam Avenue, St Andrew.

The show starts at 7 p.m. each night and tickets cost $1,500.

There will be many new pieces, combined with the 'best of the best' highlights from previous season of dance performances.

Dwright Wright, artistic director, said, "The works this year are very exciting. People can expect different genres of dances, from modern contemporary, Afrocentric and Caribbean folk form, to jazz, praise dances and also dancehall."

The show boasts choreographers led by Wright, who has no formal dance training but describes himself as having been inspired by Dr O'Neal Mundle while being involved in the arts as a student at St Catherine High School. Other choreographers are Oraine Frater, lead dancer for L'Acadco Dance Company; Orville McFarlane and Yakeem Reid, members of L'Acadco Dance Company; and former National Dance Theatre Company (NDTC) member Derrick McCarthy.

Various choreographers

The 2015 repertoire also includes choreography from Renee McDonald of The Company Dance Theatre Company and a Campion past student; Marlon Simms, NDTC associate artistic director; and Kerry-Ann Henry, director of the Edna Manley School of Dance.

"The energy and power of the dances should affect all possible emotions that the human body can experience," Wright states. "It will be energetic and colourful. One can expect elaborate stage production and the Little Theatre stage will be transformed to fully immerse the audience into the ambience of each of the dances."

In five years, the Campion College Dance Society has won multiple gold, silver and bronze medals and a few national trophies in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission competitions.

Sponsored by Proven Wealth Limited, tickets for OPA! are available at the Little Theatre Box Office and Campion College main office, or can be reserved by e-mailing campiondance@gmail.com.
