Grange pays tribute to Sister Scully

Opposition Spokesperson on Culture Olivia 'Babsy' Grange today said that the passing of legendary gospel singer Audrey 'Sister Scully' Hall has left an immense void in the local gospel circuit.

"Her passing is very close to home. Sister Scully was a strong member of the Gordon Pen community in my constituency. She attended the Apostolic Church of God Seventh-day, located at 8 Morrison Street, Spanish Town, which also falls within my constituency. So I have always maintained regular contact with her, and because of the close association, her passing has had an even greater impact on me. The community has indeed lost a leader, and the gospel fraternity has lost an outstanding member, one who served her country and her maker," Grange shared.

The singer, best known for her cover of the well-known Southern US gospel classic, Hurry Up, was widely regarded as one of the mothers of Jamaican gospel music, with a most powerful voice which delighted audiences time after time.

"She was a jovial person who possessed a certain benevolence. I would often call upon her to minister in music, and even when resources were low, she never hesitated. It was always more about carrying the message of God to the people. In fact, her husband remembers her as a real 'prayer warrior', a woman who was deeply committed to God and doing his work," said Grange.

"Jamaica has lost a dynamic member of our creative community. She will surely be missed by all. My deepest condolences go out to her husband, Christopher, other family members, friends, and fellow members of the gospel music fraternity with whom she shared fellowship for so many years. May her soul find eternal rest," Grange closed.
