Amnesia nice again - Nightclub gets facelift, adds variety

When Jimmy McNamee took over the popular Acropolis Disco in Ocho Rios, it was at a time when that club had already become a household name among party lovers not just in Ocho Rios, but the wider Jamaica.

This enabled the rebranded entity, Amnesia nightclub, boasting the tag line, 'The Club to Remember', to start basically at the top of most people's list of favourite clubs. Since then, Amnesia has maintained its favouritism among patrons from all walks of life.

Over the years, the club has hosted elimination contests for talent shows such as Magnum Kings and Queens of the Dancehall, among others.

Now, after a recent face lift, Amnesia is boasting an even more delightful ambiance and offers a wider variety of entertainment events, from parties to selectors' link-up, to stage shows, and special-theme nights.

Two dance floors

Boasting an open-air patio with a stage, along with two dance floors and multiple bars, Amnesia is drawing more and more attention.

"Amnesia, the original club in Ocho Rios, is up and kicking, newly renovated and doing quite well," McNamee told Entertainment Avenue.

Over the years, Amnesia has grown in popularity among tourists who want to get a feel of the real Jamaican night life, as opposed to what is being offered in some hotels.

The introduction of Ladies' Night on Thursdays has resulted in an increase in the number of female tourists who are drawn to the club located at the Mutual Security Mall along Main Street.

Not to be outdone, Jamaican ladies are also being increasingly drawn to the Thursday night jam and attracting more male patrons in the process. Ladies' Night offers free entrance and lots of prizes and surprises for the females. Indeed, Ladies' Night seems to be the top night at the club.

Fridays are earmarked for special events, and patrons have enjoyed sessions such as Throwback Fridaze and rock to sound systems such as Bass Odyssey, Kilamanjaro and Real Man Sound, among others.

Saturday night, is the party night and patrons are entertained by Amnesia Squad featuring selectors Fred and DJ Lollipop.

Another night that is increasing in popularity is Sipping Sundays, as patrons visit the club to unwind and enjoy a Sunday night out.

On any given Sunday, the selector could be any one of Presley Hype, Blacka British, DJ Pele, Log British, Bosey Killa, Ray Mix, Fred, DJ Lollipop, Jugglements, DJ Spice or any other. But one things is for sure, the vibe is always nice on a Sunday night.
