Cinderella at Palace Cineplex on Sunday

The Australian Ballet's Cinderella is at Palace Cineplex this Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

In the well-known story, as Cinderella works to support her stepmother and sisters, she watches as they prepare for a magnificent ball being held by the Prince of the land, knowing that they will not permit her to attend. When they leave, she imagines herself dancing at the ball in a beautiful gown, wishing that she could attend. The fairy godmother takes pity on her and visits Cinderella to transform her rags into a ballgown, transporting her to the ball and warning her that the magic will vanish at midnight,

At the ball, Cinderella meets the Prince and it is love at first sight but at midnight, she runs from the ballroom, leaving her slipper behind.

Travelling the land, the Prince searches for his lost true love, and the moment that Cinderella fits the slipper, they live happily ever after.

Alexei Osipovich Ratmansky, who helms the production, was born in St Petersburg and trained under Pyotr Pestov and Alexandra Markeyeva at the Bolshoi Ballet School. He is noted for restaging traditionally classical ballets for large companies. His first three-act story ballet was Cinderella, created for the Kirov Ballet in 2002. Ratmansky received the 2005 Prix Benois de la Danse for choreography for Anna Karenina, put on for the Royal Danish Ballet, and the 2007 Golden Mask Award for Best Choreographer for Jeu de Cartes choreographed for the Bolshoi Ballet

In 2013, Ratmansky was named as the MacArthur Fellow of the year, an award that came with "genius grant" for "working in any field, which shows exceptional merit and promise for continued and enhanced creative work.

The Australian Ballet presents upwards of 250 shows and 1,700 education and audience engagement events each year.

The Fairy Tale Series on screen at Palace Cineplex, was launched in February. Coppelia is scheduled for Sunday, June 18, at Palace Cineplex.
