The Best Care Foundation, an organisation which provides a special place for children who are mentally and physically challenged, is this year hoping to increase the funds generated from their annual comedy show by hosting not one, but two shows.

The first of the two Come Mek We Laaf shows takes place tomorrow at the Karl Hendrickson Auditorium at Jamaica College. The show then heads to Santa Cruz for the second event at the St Elizabeth Technical High School next Saturday.

Everett Lewis, director of the Foundation, told The Gleaner that there is a growing demand for a show outside of Kingston.

"It has always been one show but it has been such a success in Kingston that we felt it could be replicated elsewhere," he said. "Persons have also been expressing that Kingston is not the be-all and end-all of Jamaica, and so we got quite a number of requests for a show like this to be held outside of Kingston, and we decided to try and see how it would work out."

With the Santa Cruz show being a test run of sorts, Lewis said that there is a slight difference in the cost of

both shows.

"The ticket prices are lower than that of the Kingston show and that is because we are testing to see how well the show will do," he said, while urging persons from Santa Cruz and neighbouring communities to come out and support the event.

$4-MILLION TARGET

The organisers have set a target of raising $4 million from the shows. The money will be used for the expansion of the foundation's special education school.

"We are now fully focused on the Best Care special education group, so the money will go to better establishing that school because we are in expansion mode. We need additional equipment as well as additional teachers, so that's really what the money will be used for," Lewis said.

Dufton Shepherd, Christopher 'Johnny' Daley, Leighton Smith, Tubeless, Pretty Boy Floyd, Lemon, Everton Pessoa and Christopher Larmand have all been booked for the events.

The shows will be hosted by Deon Silvera.
