Guinness, TVJ partner to bring sound clash to viewers
Guinness has announced that it will once again bring together an explosive set of musical clashes to the Dancehall scene with the relaunch of Guinness Sounds of Greatness (GSOG).
The brand announced that Jamaica's leading free-to-air television station, Television Jamaica (TVJ), will be on board to provide a national platform for disc jocks and selectors of GSOG to showcase their talent.
The GSOG competition, which took a year-long hiatus after its 2016 hosting, will feature some of Jamaica's hottest sound systems. TVJ, which is a part of the RJRGLEANER Communications Group, will broadcast the series on TVJ and 1Spot Media with the hope of serving a broad demographic of dancehall fans across Jamaica and the Caribbean.
Authentic Jamaican experiences
TVJ is renowned for offering a platform for authentic Jamaican experiences, which includes showcasing the best of Jamaican talent.
"We are excited to again be partnering with Guinness to bring the best local disc jocks and selectors to the fore, exposing them to local and international audiences," said Natonia Sylva, marketing and sales manager, Television Jamaica Limited and Cable Services.
This year marks the 11th staging of GSOG. Title sponsor, Guinness, anticipates a climactic event with a mixture of foundation sounds and younger selectors from across the island.
"In 2016, we had a tremendous execution and GSOG 2018 has so much more in store for fans and competitors," said Nathan Nelms, assistant brand manager for Stouts and Malta at Red Stripe. "We have organised this year's competition to give contestants an opportunity to gain exposure through the TVJ platform and get advice from established acts in the dancehall arena."
Guinness has yet to announce the panel of expert judges who will be calling the shots in this year's competition. However, the brand announced at its March 15 launch, that legendary dancehall artiste Rodney 'Bounty Killer' Pryce, would be hosting the TVJ series.
The first GSOG clash will take place on May 25 with a weekly highlights package aired Saturday nights at 9:30 p.m., on TVJ, starting on June 2. The show will run until July with a grand season finale aired on TVJ.
