Buoyed by its growth over just three years, Shortwood Teachers' College has high hopes for this year's renewal of its Evening of Excellence, being staged on April 14 th at 7 p.m. on the lawns of the Cherry Garden, St Andrew, campus.

Vice-principal of administrative affairs at the college, Dr Claudette Barrett-March, says the institution seeks to raise funds to continue upgrading of the dormitory facilities for students. "We are continually seeking to improve the welfare of our students and to provide the best possible accommodations on campus, and we expect this show to make an important contribution to that effort," she said. The institution will mark 123 years of existence in September of this year.

Headlining the 2018 edition of the school's fundraiser is legendary reggae balladeer Freddie McGregor. Patrons can expect to be rocked by the Big Ship label's 'Captain Freddie' delivering classic reggae like, Big Ship, Push Come To Shove, and Just Don't Want To Be Lonely, among many others. He will be joined in the line-up by Etana, fresh from her Love over Everything tour of the United States and the release of her latest studio album, Reggae Forever. Previous performers at the event include Ernie Smith and DiMario McDowell.
