Brawta Movies: Thursdays are the new date night

While most persons will go to the movies on a Monday or Tuesday to take advantage of the two for one special, e-commerce platform Brawta Living has partnered with Palace Amusement, to encourage movie-goers to take a trip to the silver screen every Thursday. They are offering a double deal; two tickets at $1,360 and a medium popcorn.

"Palace Amusement is a foundation of entertainment in Jamaica. They've been at it for a long time. It's a really good partnership. We're rolling it out in Carib 5 now, and will be rolling out across the island to the other cinemas," senior business development manager of Brawta Living Kevin Bourke told The Gleaner.

"Feedback from persons who are purchasing on our site - is that there are many people requesting more recreational things in Kingston. So we sell a deal through Brawta Living, which is almost 50 per cent off, and you get a medium popcorn," he added.

SECOND WEEK

Yesterday was the second week of the offering, and Bourke reports that the deal has sold out (100 seats per week) in the two weeks since it started. Those who purchase the deal will have three weeks to redeem.

Bourke said, "We're incrementally filling their seats on a Thursday. Our customers are elated because it's a two people movie night and a popcorn! And people will support the concession. You get the medium popcorn and then you're gonna buy a drink. It's just smart business to get people through the doors.

Expressly excited about the potential of the Brawta Living/Palace Amusement partnership, Bourke notes that though the initial response has been positive, both parties are still testing the waters.

"There's a lot of space for incremental growth. Right now, we're walking and working within the comfort of our merchants. There's a lot of potential with it," he said, adding that there are other partnerships in the pipeline. Bourke suggested that Brawta Living may soon introduce expanded deals, like dinner and a movie packages.
