Koffee’s ‘Rapture’ remix features Govana

Jamaica’s favourite singjay, Koffee, has already infiltrated numerous spaces. These days, all disc jockeys have at least one of her songs on their playlist. Young children and grandparents happily hum along to Toast and Ragamuffin ... and Blazin’s hook is triumphant and sweeping, and encourages a slow rock with eyes closed. But it’s the title track Rapture, one of her favourites from her EP, that has received the true dancehall treatment – with a remix by 4th Genna dancehall star, Govana.

“I got a link from Koffee’s management team. They sent the actual song, and then they sent an empty verse and say they want me involved. Same time, I jumped on it,” Govana told The Gleaner.

He revealed that his verse was recorded in 2018, long before the young star’s biggest hit Toast (produced by Walshy Fire) hit the airwaves. Like many others around the world, the One N Move singer first noticed Koffee when she hit the Rebel Salute stage in 2018 –after Cocoa Tea invited her to the stage with him.

“I saw her at Rebel Salute and I was really impressed, so I was really up for it. Rapture, man. It’s a mad vibe. Magical,” the dancehall star said.

In addition to Govana, other contributors to her EP are Jane MacGizmo and Teflon Zinc Fence. Like Govana, Jane revealed that her hook was also a long time coming. She told The Gleaner that she wrote the hook for Blazin years ago, during her first foray in the industry. “But, I could never deliver in studio ... until that moment. It’s crazy, everything happens at the right time. I am so proud of her. The minute I heard her... I said, we need to send her this riddim, because she’s going to be the future of Jamaican music.”

Teflon Zince Fence produced Blazin’ – and acquiesced to Jane’s idea. “We revisited it and restructured the whole song, the whole vibe. And Koffee put her magical touch to it,” he shared.

Teflon also offered up a comparison to Chronixx – noting the youth of both acts, and how quickly they’ve garnered international attention and accolades. “It’s the same thing with Chronixx, the whole vibe and energy. It’s all about talent, the work you put in and the craft that you mould. You really get the results,” he said.

While he awaits reactions to his latest feature, Govana continues the preparation on his own upcoming project, for which two tracks are already in rotation – Champ and The Light, featuring Dre Island. “We have a couple more things coming soon, a couple more features. I’m just working on touring and broadening the catalogue and my fan base. That’s what we’re working on from 2019 going into 2020,” Govana shared.

The Rapture music video, directed by RD Studios, will go live on Friday, May 31. The remix drops just as Apple Music announces that the 19-year-old is the platforms Up Next artiste for the month of June.
