  'A St Mary Mi Come From' returns home November 9 

Saturday, November 9, is the date for 'A St Mary Mi Come From', the annual charity concert staged by reggae artiste, Capleton.

Last year, the organisers took the decision to move the event from its usual St Mary home, to the National Arena in Kingston, for a number of reasons, including the fact that the previous year had seen rain ruin the event. "But St Mary people, although they supported us, have been calling for the it to go back to its home, so we are listening to them," Capleton's manager and event co-ordinator, Claudette Kemp told The Gleaner. She was speaking to us from Bridgeport, Connecticut, where the artiste was scheduled to perform last night, after which he flies to Kansas and then St Louis, both in the United States.

Kemp noted that preparation for the concert are in high gear, and that the interest from the artistes and other players in the industry is encouraging. "As soon as I posted the flyer on social media, I started getting calls from persons wanting to be a part of the show," she said.

'A St Mary Mi Come From' was recognised as "the most authentic reggae event for 2018' by the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA).

Minister Grange leads Jamaican delegation to CARIFESTA

The Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange, is leading Jamaica’s delegation to CARIFESTA which kicked off on Friday in Trinidad and Tobago. CARIFESTA — the Caribbean Festival of the Arts — is the largest cultural and artistic event to be staged in the Caribbean.

Minister Grange says CARIFESTA presents an opportunity for Jamaican creatives to market their products and services.

“This year, Jamaica is sending one of the biggest delegations ever to CARIFESTA — 168 people including artisans, fashion designers, writers and publishers, dance companies, theatre groups, and gospel performer Kevin Downswell,” said Minister Grange.

The Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport has facilitated Jamaica’s participation in CARIFESTA 2019 through financial support of 73 performers in the delegation.

Minister Grange noted that it is important for the Ministry to help finance the delegation especially after the tremendous success of Jamaica’s delegation to the last CARIFESTA two years ago.

CARIFESTA XIV will be held from August 16 to 25 under the theme "Connect, Share, Invest."
