Peter Bunting’s playlist top 10
Peter Bunting’s Rise United campaign slogan, ‘We Can Win’, was not chosen casually. The same can be said about the top 10 tracks in the playlist of the People’s National Party presidential candidate, whose list, from start to end, echoes the message of rising up. Of course, the track that leads the playlist could be considered a plug for the campaign, since it is the campaign song, Jamaica Rise.
Bunting’s path to the presidential nomination would have almost certainly depended on winning the hearts of both the traditional members of parliament and those from the new school of thought, and Bunting’s playlist is a balanced compilation of both. Check it out. He even has a classic Kenny Rogers track in the mix, and he deserves a thumbs up for including at least one gospel song.
1. Jamaica Rise – Rise United
2. Rapture – Koffee
3. Champ – Govana
4. We Rise – Bugle
5. Messenger – Tessanne Chin
6. Revolution – Dennis Brown
7. I Will Follow – Jermaine Edwards
8. Stuck On You – Kenny Rogers
9. Na Na Na Na – Third World, featuring Chronixx
10. Where I’m Coming From – Lila Ike
More than half of Bunting’s playlist is reggae tunes, exuberant rhythms, and a few modern-day dancehall tracks, from Govana’s Champ to Popcaan’s latest track, Goals, on the ‘Freedom Street’ ‘riddim’, which seemed to be added as a bonus at No. 11.
With lyrics “look pon me good, yeah, survivor, not even police can stop me like Buju drive” that stand out and potentially will make any listener let out a chuckle or two, it is a strange and eye-opening addition to the playlist and fairly new, only about five months old, which shows that Bunting is keeping up with dancehall.
