It’s not news that the current fight against COVID-19 has overshadowed plans of artistes worldwide, having impacted some of their biggest stages and platforms with the cancellation of not only large-scale events but private ones as well.

Birthday parties online are becoming the norm, said recording artiste Diel, “and I’ve been targeting that market – the individuals who are creative with how they celebrate special occasions”.

Following a request to sing for someone’s 50th birthday a couple of weeks ago, the singer-songwriter had a light-bulb moment.

He said: “The family was unable to celebrate with each other, but they did so virtually, and the gesture or gift of me singing to the woman whose birthday it was more than she expected. I figured I could do this for mothers since there won’t be regular dinners and concerts that treat them.”

SALUTE TO WOMEN

Diel’s latest release, Majesty, is a lyrical tribute to all women and is the song that most persons seeking his serenading skills request for him to sing. He celebrates some of Jamaica’s outstanding women, including Member of Parliament Lisa Hanna, radio host Miss Kitty, and sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, in the music video, which inspired a social-media/online challenge last month. Three females walked away with $10,000 for bringing their dance energy to the song.

“I thought I could sing not only Majesty and promote it as an anthem but create personalised packages for occasions where I put the name of the woman into the track to make it extra special. So far, the bookings to serenade mothers are coming in from as far as Japan and Germany,” he said. “It speaks to women being royalty, and some of the strongest women we praise are mothers. Other songs are included in a second package, but what I have done so far is record the audio and high-quality visuals of me singing the tracks.”

The singer says he is trying to get all requests together and is still taking bookings.

“We, the recording artistes and musicians, are forced to innovate new ways to create income, and how we make things work now is the first step to implementing new ways for the future,” he said.
