‘One Caribbean’ is the title of gospel singer Chozenn’s newest single, which, as the name implies, is an ode to regional unity. While it may not necessarily fit snugly in a praise-and-worship session, the song is inspiring, and Chozenn has since converted his original solo offering into a remix peppered with a stellar cast from the islands.

Among the artistes who have joined him on One Caribbean are Jaron Nurse and Blessed Messenger from Trinidad and Tobago; Jamaica’s gospel legend and songbird Glacia Robinson; Emrand Henry From St Lucia; Hayden Billingy from St Vincent and the Grenadines; and gospel rapper Lucas Musiq and Roro from Martinique. Chozenn declares that the intent of this eight-artiste collaboration, produced by Shaquille ‘Shaka Pro’ Charles from Trinidad and Tobago, is to raise the bar even higher for the glory of God.

His mission, he emphasised, is a divine call to action for love and unity, regardless of ethnicity, with the message being ‘we are one’. The singer says he has been led to encourage “not just my family and nation, but the entire region (Caribbean). This timely offering is really just to say, hey, we all in this together. It is a greeting of hope, and I pray it will help to begin our restoration. Again, this too shall pass,” Chozenn said.

BONDING ON PROJECT

He told The Gleaner that he was happy to see that Caribbean gospel artistes had forged a stronger relationship by working on this project together. “We have bonded big time! And I’m interceding as I respond to you, that nations will see and feel the organic love and unity we shared on this project, and it will bless the hearts of the people globally. People will be so proud of where they are from, that even those in the diaspora in Europe, UK, and other countries will be waving their flags.”

Pointing out that he is very passionate about this collab, Chozenn has been teasing relentlessly about it on social media, informing that it features some of the Caribbean’s best “led by yours truly”, and has been building a vibe leading to the release date. That particular item, however, has so far been under wraps.

“Everybody is asking about the release date. Well, it will be officially out June 5, 2020,” he said.

“Due to COVID-19, the video will be done when our ports free up. We want to execute vision with excellence, there is no room for mediocrity. So post-coronavirus, it will be done and all the nations will be represented.”

Despite the pandemic, the gospel artiste has been quite visible, appearing in a number of online events, the most recent being last Saturday night, when he was representing Jamaica at Ahwe Fest, promoted as the largest online gospel event to hit St Vincent and the Grenadines. It featured a total of 31 local, regional and international acts on the line-up. Chozenn and his band were the penultimate act on the almost four-hour-long concert.
