Bob Marley’s award-winning nephew rolls with Deiwght Peters - Charles Mattocks a guest on Sunday’s show

Television Jamaica’s Sunday afternoon hit ‘Rolling with Deiwght Peters’ is like the gift that keeps on giving. Each week, the lifestyle show brings global personalities, spanning industries such as fashion, medicine, business and television to our screens.

This week, Peters shared screen time with television producer and international health advocate, Charles Mattocks, nephew of music icon Bob Marley.

“I have known Charles for many years when he came to Jamaica and started one of his first independent TV projects called Conversations in the Kitchen,” Peters informed The Gleaner in an exclusive project update interview.

Mattocks has an impressive resume’ which includes his being award-winning actor, director, producer, television host and health advocate. He is now a champion of multiple topical health issues, including diabetes, HIV, and cancer.

Mattocks’ late mother is sister to the reggae legend Bob Marley. He once harboured Hollywood ambitions and indeed is an accomplished actor. He notably starred in The Summer of Ben Tyler, alongside legends James Woods and Elizabeth McGovern. The movie garnered six nominations during the award season, and Variety Magazine declared, “In Charles Mattocks, a star is born”. As an author, producer, and director, Mattocks’ work has been showcased by media outlets worldwide.

His world changed in the blink of an eye when he received the feared diagnosis of Type II diabetes and realised that he had a larger mission to make changes, not only for himself, but so many others. He armed himself with education and determination and began to reverse his condition. He documented his process in a provocative documentary, The Diabetic You. This film set his advocacy in motion, with Mattocks ascending to become a Blue Circle Champion for the International Diabetes Association and a published author for the American Diabetes Association.

He created, directed, and executive-produced Reversed, the acclaimed diabetes reality docuseries, on Discovery Life Channel. The show earned a second season pick-up – this time focusing on HIV. He also produced Trial By Fire, about his mother’s rare disease, complex regional pain syndrome. The buzz-worthy success of Reversed inspired FYI network to continue Mattocks’ healing quests. In January 2020, his groundbreaking new series, Eight Days, premiered.
