Michael Williams, the father of Miss Universe Jamaica 2020 Miqueal-Symone Williams, said not hearing his daughter's name called as the pageant's overall winner was a surprise, but words cannot explain how proud he is of the 24-year-old. "We had named her winner (so) words can't explain how I am feeling; I only wish I could be there for support."

Seventy-four women from across the globe vied for the Miss Universe crown this year. At the end of the international competition, Miqueal-Symone Williams prevailed against pandemic protocols and restrictions to make it to the top 10.

Held at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, the 69th Miss Universe international competition was hosted by Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpa and American television personality and actor Mario Lopez.

The initial 74 contestants were narrowed down to 21 semi-finalists, and following the traditional swimsuit round, the Top 10 was revealed. Jamaica was the first to be called along with India, Peru, Australia, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Thailand, Costa Rica, Brazil and Mexico.

Karl Williams, director and co-franchise holder of the local Miss Universe Jamaica pageant, said the organisation was happy and excited about Miqueal-Symone Williams' future. He said the Jamaican representative was "a winner in their books" and that it was unfortunate that she didn't make it to the question segment. "She is very sharp," said Karl Williams.

Of course, only one could inherit the crown from Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi. The longest-reigning Miss Universe took the stage at the end of the night to announce that Miss Universe Mexico Andrea Meza would be her successor.
