Pageant will give Miqueal-Symone Williams ‘extra visibility’ - Romae Gordon

Several Jamaican beauties have parlayed their pageant success into fruitful opportunities including Lisa Hanna (Miss World 1993), Terri-Karelle Reid (Miss Jamaica World 2005), Yendi Phillipps (Miss Jamaica World 2007 and Miss Universe Jamaica 2010), Kaci Fennell (Miss Universe Jamaica 2014), and Davina Bennett (Miss Universe 2017).
It is a fact that pageantry helps to grow and expand the capabilities and opportunities of the women who participate. For Miss Universe Jamaica 2020, Miqueal-Symone Williams, having represented Jamaica in the international Miss Universe competition will improve her marketability in the fashion, beauty, and modelling industry, said Romae Gordon.
“This is certainly so for the Jamaican market, where talent users are influenced by those considerations, and she obviously had the potential to capture the attention of a global audience,” said the fashion director at Pulse Investments and Pulse Model Agency, where Williams has established a footing as one of their top-performing models.
She kicked off her professional modelling career in 2018 when she won the Pulse/Select Model Search and has been with the agency for the past three and a half years.
Aspiring models should note that the nature of beauty pageants is such that a Miss Universe competition is not for everyone, Gordon said, “however if it is a good fit for your individual look, talent,and personality, then it presents another opportunity for you to advance your career in the beauty and fashion business”.
GREAT PATH
Gordon, said Williams, who recently made it to the top 10 of the 69th Miss Universe pageant, was already on a great path and would have continued regardless of her entry into the Miss Universe competition.
“The pageant, however, would have given her that extra visibility and increased her social media following, which helps in modelling,” she said.
Gordon added: “Miqueal-Symone was a great representative for Jamaica, which resulted in her being placed in the top 10. She may use this advantageously through her social media channels, and if she decides to take the route of a beauty entrepreneur, she should be able to parlay being named among the 10 most beautiful women in the world in this cycle into greater success.”
Williams has worked for some of the finest Italian fashion brands such as Armani and Valentino, French multinational high-fashion house Lanvin, and other popular runway names like Richard Quinn, Roksanda Ilincic, and Tommy Hilfiger in the short time she has been a model. The Miss Universe Jamaica 2020 representative is expected to return to Jamaica today.
The fashion director explained that Williams would return to her international modelling duties, having had several high-fashion options for major brands during her pageant commitments, and knowing her personality and drive, will also remain dedicated to her philanthropy.
Her advice to Williams: “Let this be even greater motivation to excel in your modelling career given that you now have a global audience taking notice. You carried yourself with great poise. Well done, and continue pushing forward, Miqueal-Symone.”
