Who will rule The Social House?

That’s the ‘million dollar’ question swirling on social media today as Jamaicans were introduced to a brand new online reality series. The virtual entertainment space just got a lot more exciting after the first episode of The Social House premièred last night. The brainchild of marketer and public relations guru Tara Playfair-Scott, the new series will see four of Jamaica’s hottest young influencers go neck-to-neck each week for a shot at a cash prize of one million dollars.

YouTuber Quite Perry; dancer-turned-reality star, TC; entrepreneur, Chiney K; and IG comedian, Fatskull are all house mates in this exciting new series, which producers are hoping will captivate audiences across the globe. But as if having four influencers under one roof weren’t enough to create a drama-filled environment, The Social House will throw weekly challenges into the mix, taking contestants out of their comfort zones and making them earn the million dollars up for grabs.

In an interview with The Gleaner, businesswoman Chiney K said she was confident that she would walk away the millionaire at the end of the competition. But more than the cash prize, the social media personality is looking forward to how much the Jamaican entertainment scene will benefit from having another reality TV series. She said that with the international market having taken leaps in the field over the last few decades, she is happy Jamaica has caught on. “I thought it was great idea for the Jamaican market, a great idea for upcoming influencers, and I think the Jamaican market will respond in a very positive way to this new show. It’s a long time coming for Jamaica as far as reality TV is concerned,” she shared. “When came out, it was a game changer on the entertainment scene because we never had anything like that in this market. We are on the Internet a lot more today and so why not make these moves in Jamaica? I think we are ready. If they (the international market) can do it, we can do it, too.”

Quite Perry also shared that when he was approached initially to be part of The Social House, he, too, was excited. He noted that with the influencer space growing rapidly in Jamaica, he was happy that corporate Jamaica was willing to invest in persons like him in more modern ways. “Oftentimes, I would sit and watch everything happening on the international space, and I’d just sit and wonder, Jamaica, when is your turn? The influencer space is growing, the social media space in terms of content creation and creators is growing, and it’s important to open us up to other avenues because it’s not just about ‘get up and post on social media’,” he shared. “This show is giving us an avenue to express ourselves in different ways and to connect with our audience on a whole new level.”

“Also, the fact that there’s a chance to win a million dollars was a plus,” he continued, laughing. Fellow house mate TC admits that the latter was a big motivation for her. “The first time mi hear about challenges mi say ‘Jesus, a wah go down’ because I am a person, mi fraid a heights, fraid a water, fraid a everything. Mi nuh adventurous so when mi hear about challenges, mi a wonder wah go take place. But when mi hear winner walk away with a million dollars, mi affi do weh mi affi do,” she said.

Fatskull shared similar statements. “I could see from the get-go this would be a well-organised show, and so I was excited to be a part of it. I am anticipating having some fun with the challenges and, of course, winning the million dollars. I want to get to each challenge. I hope none of them nuh take me out,” he laughed. “I just want to embrace each experience and WIN in the end.”

On the first episode of T he Social House aired last night on YouTube, the four contestants were challenged to a cook-off. They were given a basket of ingredients from sponsors and were tasked to prepare a meal in 25 minutes. The challenge proved too much for some contestants, leaving some meals undercooked and incomplete. Nevertheless, even in failure, the contestants did not disappoint in terms of fun. Their personalities shone through, no doubt leaving viewers with a bellyful of laughter and a whole lot of anticipation for Episode 2. The Social House will air every Monday.
