Are we friends or foes?

Actors renowned in theatre and film, those new to the silver screen, and a host of talented singers and dancers join Steven Spielberg and his crew in bringing a new adaptation of the original, beloved stage musical West Side Story to the big screen.

The cast includes Rachel Zegler (Maria), Ansel Elgort (Tony), Ariana DeBose (Anita), David Alvarez (Bernardo), Mike Faist (Riff), Josh Andrés Rivera (Chino), Corey Stoll (Lieutenant Schrank), and Brian d’Arcy James (Sergeant Krupke). Rita Moreno, who won an Academy Award for her portrayal of Anita in the 1961 film version of West Side Story, features as Valentina, a reconceived and expanded version of the character of Doc, the owner of the corner store in which Tony works.

PROLOGUE

The opening is a carefully choreographed, half-danced/half-mimed ballet of sorts. It shows the growing tensions between the Sharks, a Puerto Rican gang, and the Jets, a gang made up of ‘American’ boys. An incident between the Jets and Shark leader, Bernardo, escalates into an all out fight between the two gangs. Officers Schrank and Krupke arrive to break up the fight.

West Side Story is produced and directed by multiple Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg from a script by Academy Award-nominated screenwriter and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner (Lincoln). The film has been adapted for the screen from the original 1957 Broadway musical, which was written by Arthur Laurents with music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and concept, direction and choreography by Jerome Robbins. Tony Award winner Justin Peck will choreograph the musical numbers in the film. Also leading the production are Tony Award-winning producer Kevin McCollum and Academy Award-nominated producer Kristie Macosko Krieger.

The film’s music team includes renowned conductor Gustavo Dudamel, who helmed the recording of Bernstein’s iconic score; Academy Award-nominated composer and conductor David Newman (Anastasia), who arranged the score for the new adaptation; Tony Award-winning composer Jeanine Tesori (Broadway’s Fun Home and Thoroughly Modern Millie), who will worked with the cast on vocals; and Grammy-nominated music supervisor, Matt Sullivan ( Beauty and the Beast, Chicago), who served as executive music producer for the film.

This film is probably the most daunting of my career. West Side Story is arguably the greatest score ever written in the theatre, and that’s not lost on any of us. It’s very intimidating to take a masterpiece and make it through different eyes and different sensibilities without compromising the integrity of what is generally considered the greatest music ever written for the theatre. But I believe that great stories should be told over and over again, in part to reflect different perspectives and moments in time into the work.

Clifford: The Big Red Dog

When middle-schooler Emily Elizabeth (Darby Camp) meets a magical animal rescuer (John Cleese) who gifts her a little, red puppy, she never anticipated waking up to find a giant 10-foot hound in her small New York City apartment. While her single mom (Sienna Guillory) is away for business, Emily and her fun but impulsive uncle Casey (Jack Whitehall) set out on an adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat as our heroes take a bite out of the Big Apple.

Based on the beloved scholastic book character, Clifford will teach the world how to love big!

The film is directed by Walt Becker, with screenplay by Jay Scherick, David Ronn and Blaise Hemingway.

Screen story is by Justin Malen and Ellen Rapoport.

No Time to Die

No Time to Die enters week number nine on the Palace Amusement circuit and the countdown is on … again.

Partially filmed in Portland and starring Daniel Craig as James Bond, the film also features British-Jamaican actresses Lashana Lynch as the first female double 07 agent, Academy Award nominee Naomie Harris in her third role as Moneypenny, and a great soundtrack featuring Jamaican music and the Grammy Award-winning theme song No Time to Die, performed by multiple Gramy winner Billie Eilish.

In No Time To Die, Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica, but his respite is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help.

The film is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga and also stars Rami Malek, LéaSeydoux, Ben Whishaw, Jeffrey Wright, Christoph Waltz, Academy Award winner; Ralph Fiennes, Ana de Armas, Billy Magnussen, Rory Kinnear, David Dencik and Dali Benssalah.

No Time to Die is based on James Bond by Ian Fleming. It is produced by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, with music by Hans Zimmer.
