Singer, Romain Virgo, readily admits that he never had any intention of becoming a vlogger, a project which sees him generously sharing a slice of his life each week with his fans, who are dubbed ‘Virgonation’. However, not only is he enjoying it immensely, he is urging other artistes and people who have influence to do the same.

Romain, his wife Liz and the adorable twins Raina and Emma, comprise The Virgos. They have over 150,000 subscribers on YouTube and their episodes range from the unexpected to the downright amusing. Two years into The Virgos, Romain is counting the blessings of having an extended, loving, online family. They were right there with him when he caught COVID and have been there throughout his house-hunting journey.

The February 9 episode stated: “In this video, Romain goes back on the road for the first time since coming out of isolation and is super excited!!! Our mission for the day was shopping for our new home … but … first we must find a good bargain ... so our shopping day turned into bargain hunting … tune in to see what happened.”

“It’s such a blessing. I didn’t know that people would be so in tune to us giving them a little piece of our day. It is amazing to see the love that people show in their comments under each video every week. It really and truly lifts my spirits. Sometimes I am feeling down and low, and just reading a few comments can change everything. So I am just happy,” Romain shared with The Sunday Gleaner.

UPLIFT PEOPLE

The Chatty Chatty singer, who stepped into the spotlight when he won the Digicel Rising Stars talent competition 15 years ago, shared that it was the pandemic that stirred thoughts of vlogging, and it wasn’t meant to be an ongoing situation.

“Because of the whole vibe with the pandemic in early 2020, we realised that everybody is locked up in the house, and we knew that a lot of people wanted to know a little bit more about us. So we said, ‘Let us see if we can find a way to uplift people and uplift their vibe and their energy.’ So, if I am going to be honest, I didn’t know that we would still be doing it now. But it’s a joy; it’s a blessing. Nowadays, I really enjoy doing it because I see the positive effect it has on people, the lives of people around the world, not just Jamaica,” Romain said.

He added, “It is a great thing, and I would encourage anybody else like myself, whoever, once you have some sort of influence, share some positive energy, share some positive vibe, it can change a whole lot.”

Romain also shared that he has been busy being a contractor working on the family’s new home during the pandemic. “I am just grateful that the Almighty could bless me and my family within the pandemic. And sometimes I wonder how, how is that even possible? But we are grateful and happy. The girls are growing up real fast, climbing and mashing up the house right now. That’s the reason we had to find more space for them. I guess it will take more energy to mash down,” he said with a laugh.

In his full-time job, music, Romain is working assiduously. He recently released the single, Good Woman, along with an accompanying video, which amassed more than one million views in a month. He is still basking in that first. He is currently working on a project that is set to be released in 2022. However, he was a bit tight-lipped about it.

“The project, that is coming this year, and we are still pushing our latest single. We have something else that is probably coming soon, but I prefer to just drop the music rather than promising, because sometimes we can promise and it don’t work out for that particular time. And you know how fans are … they get disappointed. All I want them to know is that new music is always coming and I am working on a big project right now,” Romain assured.

Despite urgings, he refused to name names.

“I would be giving away too much. But it is real, and it is true, and I am grateful for everybody that is a part of this project. Some of the names, I have always wanted to work with, and I am just looking forward to a great album,” he said.
