Slow entries for Miss Clarendon Festival Queen

It is slow going where entries are concerned for the Jamaican Cultural Development Commission’s (JCDC) Miss Clarendon Festival Queen, forcing organisers to extend the deadline to Friday, April 15.
Acting Parish Manager Maurice Marshalleck informed that people have been calling and stopping by the parish office to enquire about the competition and are excited at the prospect of becoming the cultural ambassador of the parish. However, they just have received just one entry.
The competition seeks empowered young women between the ages of 18 and 25 who are intelligent, culturally aware, poised, and are looking for a platform to make their contributions to nation-building.
A signature programme of the JCDC, the Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition focuses on leadership, appreciation of the role of women, culture, creative talent and community involvement. It has produced some outstanding queens who have continued to make a significant contribution to building Brand Jamaica beyond their reign.
Marshalleck hailed the current queen for the work she is doing in the parish and with the reopening of the entertainment industry has big plans for this year’s competition.
“Miss Dennae Mills was chosen to represent Clarendon as its cultural ambassador, and she is doing a fantastic job. This year, with some of the restrictions lifted on how we are able to host events, we anticipate that we will have a hybrid approach where we will be able to treat a select number of patrons to a live show, while at the same time, having the show streamed to an online platform. The show will leave viewers amazed and full of anticipation for the other diamond jubilee Independence celebrations in Clarendon,” he said in anticipation of the eliminations for the parish.
In appealing for entrants to capitalise on the opportunity to represent the parish, he said prospective entrants would have the unique opportunity to represent Clarendon as its cultural ambassador during the island’s diamond jubilee.
Entries should be done online via the JCDC Entry Portal, and are free of cost.
Contestants will have the opportunity to compete for over one million dollars in cash and prizes. There will also be cash prizes and other incentives for all the contestants at the parish level.
