The promoters of Six.Five.Eight held at Marketplace Entertainment Centre for the Arts Limited (MECA) on a Friday night can claim bragging rights for being an event that provides a signature and premium Jamaican experience with international appeal after hosting an all-VIP edition with Offset and Cardi B as its guests this past weekend.

According to MECA director, Michael Dawson, there were many cynics who doubted the establishment and its team of promoters’ capabilities to pull off the event which advertised Migos rapper Offset as its host.

“We have seen that MECA was able to deliver despite persons thinking that it was not possible. We arranged it in a way that was premium, and with top tier security and I’m more than satisfied with how the night progressed,” Dawson told The Gleaner.

The parking lot of Market Place on Constant Spring Road was filled from 10 p.m., and there was twice as many patrons as cars, walking into the location in anticipation to catch a view of the celebrities. Little did they know they would have to wait for four hours before their arrival.

Walking in “fashionably late”, minutes to 3 a.m., Offset and Cardi B entered MECA arm in arm surrounded by a stiff security detail and friends. Cardi B’s younger sister, Hennessy Carolina, was also present. The Six.Five.Eight party series is just one of the nightlife activities the international stars participated in, as they would have attended an event at Margaritaville on Tuesday, and then danced up a storm at a street dance hosted by Romeich Entertainment on Wednesday night.

At the MECA event, the American rap superstar couple, who, together have daughter Kulture Kiari and one-year-old son Wave Set, were treated to music provided by Coppershot Sound and performances by some of Jamaica’s top dancers including Sara Bendii and Rebel. They made the performers feel more rewarding by tossing loads of cash on to the dancefloor at the dancers.

While Offset was the host for the night, many of the dancers were interested to get noticed by Cardi B, likewise club-goers who grabbed at every chance to get a snapshot of the Up rapper dancing or waving at them during the festivities.

“Our team is happy for the international exposure that comes out of having Offset host our event. And to also be able to provide a premium experience for his partner Cardi B and their guests. We definitely saw a different calibre of persons here tonight and look forward to continuing this trend,” co-promoter of Six.Five.Eight offered.

The Coppershot selectors Marc Chin and DJ Cyclone paid keen attention to the requests of the guests of honour, motivating them to ‘leggo di bird’ and even had Cardi B whine her waistline to the floor.

Cardi B shared that her experience in Jamaica has been beautiful and that they were excited to celebrate with Offset and she is looking to return right away. There has been no confirmation as to the date the couple will leave the island.
