5 Questions with D’Yani

Creating Tidal waves in the music industry, he is arguably one of the most anticipated performers for the 2023 staging of Reggae Sumfest. With his refreshing sound and charismatic energy making their impressive debuts last year, D’Yani is focused on magnifying his previous performance and putting his passion, dedication and reggae-meets-dancehall artistry on show.
Inviting his audience to express their Feelings and Live a Little for the occasion, it’s his ability to deliver his love Letter and serenade with the Wife Anthem that will undoubtedly have his Senoritas screaming for more.
This week, 5 Questions is on a Sumfest journey with D’Yani.
How does it feel to be hitting the Sumfest stage for the second consecutive year?
It’s an amazing feeling. Preparing for this year’s performance has been internal more than anything else. Working really hard on my stage performance, I have been improving in areas like confidence and speech, like pronunciation and projection, in order to truly feel and be one with the music. So, I’m excited to see how I deliver this year!
To what extent have you matured as an artiste since your main stage debut last year?
Since my debut performance in 2022, I think I have vastly improved on my stage presence. It was not my strongest asset. I was more in tune with my voice and the emotions it evokes from people. But I’ve grown to love performing.
In terms of new music, what are the songs that people have been gravitating to the most for 2023?
With the aim to diversify my catalogue and make songs that are more targeted towards social commentary and life experiences, I have found some success with songs like Tidal and Live a Little, which have garnered strength for different reasons. While Tidal featuring the likes of Law Boss, Chronic Law has gained more attention from the streets and grits of Jamaica, the response to my recent reggae hit single, Live a Little, has slowly become a household anthem, imploring people to enjoy every moment of their life.
How did the collaboration between you and Vanessa Bling come about, and what was it like working with her?
Being able to work with such a great artiste like Vanessa Bling, one of my top voices in Jamaica, on Soul Tied was a great experience for me. The collaboration was crafted by ‘Week Day’ from Tru Ambassador Productions. I was doing some work with him and he played the song for me. I loved it from the first note that was sung!
What has been your proudest career achievement to date and why?
My proudest moment of my career would still be, and still is, being able to start, do, believe in and perform music; just deciding to be an artiste and to fulfil my duty in this world!

What can fans look forward to from your Sumfest performance?
At this year’s Sumfest, fans can just expect passion, vibes and fashion. This is my passion and I intend to bring it to their ears and hearts.
