Miss Global International ‘on track’ for tonight
Following a two-year hiatus, the Miss Global International beauty pageant is set to return to Jamaica where 17 ladies from all corners of the world will compete for the coveted title. Neelam Ramchandani, director/co-chair, Miss Global International, is excited about the cultural diversity present in this year’s staging. “We have ladies we consider close neighbours from Mexico, Venezuela and Puerto Rico, and even some [from] as far as India and, for the first [time], a representative from Hong Kong,” she said.
Jamaica will be represented by Kimone Carty, Miss Global Jamaica 2023.
Ramchandani states that the pageant, which is centred around ‘Uniting The World Through Beauty and Tourism’, has the ability to empower and uplift women in Jamaica and beyond by providing a platform for self-expression, education, community engagement, sisterhood, advocacy, career opportunities, diversity, leadership development, and creating positive role models which collectively contribute to the empowerment and upliftment of women in various ways. As is the custom, the ladies will also be judged on their smile, figure, talent, and cultural awareness.
As the clock winds down on the current title holder’s reign, Ramchandani is confident about tomorrow’s staging, “All things considered, with three days of intense preparation leading up to the event covering travel logistics, hair stylists, make-up artists, [an] international panel of judges, and other factors. We are still on track to execute the event.”
The pageant will be held tonight at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, starting at 8 p.m., with a special guest performance by Alaine.
