Following heavy criticism of a $1,000 entrance fee to attend the Romeich Major job fair, organisers today waived the charge for those who turned up.

Major had defended the fee in hitting back at his critics.

But, he had a different tune today, stating that imposing a fee for the job fair was a tool used to weed out prospects who were not serious about obtaining employment.

“What happened [is that] this was a thing that [was] put there to sift out all the time wasters. As well, we have some people in Jamaica who prefer to hear there is a fee than freeness,” the businessman stated.

He was also quick to note that the job fair was approved by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.

Asked if he would undertake another fair amid the negative feedback, Major said he was undecided.

“With the backlash, I am very hurt, personally, so I don't know if I will be doing it again.”

Attendees told The Gleaner that the job fair ran smoothly and that they enjoyed the atmosphere and the offerings provided by sponsors.

Major stated that he had 150 jobs to fill between his Romeich Entertainment and Major Marketing enterprises.
