Reggae artistes Burning Spear, Buju Banton, Beenie Man, Julian Marley and Collie Buddz have all been nominated in the Best Reggae Album category for the 2024 Grammy Awards.

The nominations were announced this morning during a video stream live on the Grammy website and the Recording Academy’s YouTube channel

The albums up for a Grammy are: No Destroyer by Burning Spear; Buju Banton's Born For Greatness; Beenie Man's Simma; Colors of Royal by Julian Marley & Antaeus; and Cali Roots Riddim 2023 by Collie Buddz.

Reggae acts, including Stephen Marley, Shaggy and Morgan Heritage who all submitted albums in the Global Music and other categories failed to snag any nominations this year.

Jimmy Jam, Jon Bon Jovi, Kim Petras, Samara Joy, 'Weird Al' Yankovic and Muni Long were among those making the announcements of the nominees.

Albums eligible for Grammy nominations had to be released between October 1, 2022, and September 15, 2023.

The Recording Academy noted that the 2024 awards will feature a few changes, including a rule that “only human creators” can win the music industry’s highest honour. Also, two existing categories have been moved to the general field. This means that all Grammy voters can be a part of the selecting of winners in the producer of the year, non-classical, and songwriter of the year, non-classical categories.

The 66th Grammy Awards ceremony will air February 4 live on CBS and Paramount+ from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
