An album by endangered birds has debuted on Australia's music charts

'Songs of Disappearance' features the birdsongs from 53 of Australia's most threatened bird species and is currently at number five in the Australia Aria chart – ahead of artistes such as Michael Buble, Olivia Rodrigo and ABBA.

Writing on its website, BirdLife Australia said: "We did it!

"Thanks to your incredible support we reached #5 in the ARIA charts, ahead of ABBA, Mariah Carey and Michael Buble."

Proceeds from the sale of the album will go towards BirdLife Australia's threatened species campaigns.

The organisation's CEO Paul Sullivan told The Music Network: "This album is a very special record with some rare recordings of birds that may not survive if we don't come together to protect them.

"While this campaign is fun, there's a serious side to what we're doing, and it's been heartening to see bird enthusiasts showing governments and businesses that Australians care about these important birds."
