Dogs love listening to Bob Marley

Sam Sutton, a senior music lecturer at the University of West London, has studied what types of music keep canines calm in the car and found that the reggae vibes of Marley and Jimmy Cliff are perfect for pooches.

'70s and '80s soft rock also proved soothing for the animals, but rock acts such as Led Zeppelin and AC/DC are not encouraged.

Calming tracks on the list include Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon and Hounds of Love by Kate Bush.

Sutton said: "A recent study from the University of Glasgow suggests music can affect dogs' behaviour. Dogs were exposed to a variety of sounds and styles to assess physiological and behavioural changes.

"They witnessed that dogs displayed positive behaviour changes when exposed to certain music types. Reggae and soft rock appear to have been the tunes of choice.

"Reggae is often associated with sunshine and chilling out, so perhaps this type of soothing emotional response is shared with our canine companions."
