South African woman feeds insects

Joanne Techow explained that creepy crawlies feature heavily in her diet and claims that crickets taste "just liked fried chicken".

Techow - who lives in Johannesburg - is creative with the ways she eats the bugs and sprinkles cricket powder on  her salad and puts boiled mealworms on her kiwis.

The former zoology student is adamant that her unusual diet is not only tasty and nutritious, but good for the environment as well.

She told NeedToKnow.online: "I'm obsessed with insects.

"Mealworms taste like chicken, ants are salty, crickets taste like nuts if they're roasted - but if you fry them they taste like fried chicken and smell like popcorn.

"Bamboo worms taste salty but are absolutely delicious. Oh my word, I could eat those like chips."
