Miss Woolworth 1965 crowned in style at staff party
In a glittering ceremony held at the Chinese Athletic Club, Miss Selma Clayton, a clerk at Woolworth’s King Street, was crowned as Miss Woolworth 1965 by a panel of seven judges. The staff party saw 12 contestants in cocktail dresses vying for the prestigious title, with Audrey Rose securing the second-place position and Isden Anderson taking third.

Selma Clayton is Miss Woolworth
MISS SELMA CLAYTON, a clerk at Woolworth’s King Street, was chosen as Miss Woolworth 1965 by a panel of seven judges at the staff party held at the Chinese Athletic Club on Saturday night.
Audrey Rose was second-place winner with Isden Anderson third. The winner and runner-up receive as their prizes a trip to Miami donated by the Canteen at the King Street store. The queen was crowned by last year’s winner, Yvonne Phillips.
Wearing cocktail dresses, the 12 contestants paraded before judges Winston Meeks (chairman), Mr and Mrs Alphonso Bardowell, D. Vaswani, C. Hanson, William Rhoden and Douglas Vaz, Jr.
Mrs Peters Nichols, wife of the King Street store manager, presented the prizes. The crown was donated by Irmana Enterprises and the cup by Colgate Palmolive. The contestants were made up by the local representatives for Harriott Hubbard Ayer, who also donated prizes. The contest was followed by dancing, with music supplied by Carlos Malcolm and his Afro-Jamaican Rhythms.
