Scientists discover link between Alzheimers and nose picking

A new study has discovered a link between the seemingly harmless act of 'digging for gold' and the degenerative brain condition.

When a person picks their nose, bacteria and fungi enter the brain and increase the odds of a person developing the disease.

The Australian researchers explained how the external pathogens introduced into the nasal cavity when a person picks their nose causes inflammation.

The boffins have urged people to stop picking their noses even though the removal of dried mucus can allow a person to breathe more easily.

A report published in the journal Biomolecules said: "It is essential to note that the temporary relief obtained from nose picking is not a substitute for proper nasal hygiene, which involves regular cleaning and maintenance of the nasal passages through gentle methods such as saline nasal rinses or blowing the nose."
